The gig of a lifetime...

It was some time in 2000-and-something.  I woke up and the sun was shinning bright with its illumine letting us know that it's a bloody, brand new day, mate!

When waking up and the sun shines...you smile and feel life and embrace the beginning of the start of new possibilities and new avenues to explore and discover- but the riddle on THAT particular day was: "how is the Jamiroquai concert gonna be like?!" Yes... it was the day I went to go check out a show which promised a tour de force experience!!  I had seen some of the band's videos and expected; simply put: Magic!!  After making myself look good and desirable, my friends and I met up and the excitement  in our eyes and the rhythm flowing through our amped bodies could not be quoted nor stomped by a force of a million stars as we were steadily heading to the Coca-Cola Dome.

As we finally arrive in our stunning outfit as a group of friends and ready-to-rock attitudes; the concert hall was beautifully filled to beyond the quorum to constitute an -oh, let's call it an... "awesome" concert.  My friend @vuyomse (chick him out on twitter) dethroned one of the crowd members of his phone: no- not by stealing it, but simply being so thirsty that he had he had to be seated for a while and quenche his demanding thirst in comfort that where we happened to sit and rest  (at some random table), was a random phone.  No one next to it, no one attending to it...it was just there... We deliberated (being the innocent citizens we are) about the possibilities of finding the owner.  Alas, the reality of the matter overweighed the idealistic dream and intension of finding the owner.  So after much discussion and idea bouncing, he kept the mysterious phone: ching ching!!  [at this moment I would like to point out that we are not kleptomaniacs and just happened to be lucky by finding that phone] After having quenched our thirst, we (he and I and our friends) slowly made our way into the Coca-Cola Dome to what would be "the best night of our lives."
Upon entering, we realize that we were quite more to the middle than we expected...this did not stop us at all!  As with every deviant concert, you have to wit for the artist.  After about an hour of jamming to the hypnotic yet throbbing and intoxicating music, eureka- the band mobilized on the illuminated stage and sent us into orbit as we screamed as though we had just witnessed the president.

The jacquard of races, genders, cultures and music fans were engrossed by the tonic sounds of Jamiroquai.
One of my favourite  moments was when JK (the lead singer) lit a marijuana joint on stage and muttered the words: "I hear marijuana is illegal in South Africa, well, fuck that", and he perversely lit the joint and continued sharing his opinion as to why he does what he does.  The stoners in the crowd eagerly screamed "puff puff give..." as though the 5cm joint would suffice all of them.  At this point I'm so high on Vuyo's shoulders (as tall as he is) and I'm experiencing the illustrious concert from an eagles eye view.
"You...you give me something...something that nobody else can give..." are the lyrics to a song called 'Little L' -one of my favourite Jamiroquai songs.  He performed this song without fail and all of my favourites...and more!!!  I screamed and sang so loud that my voice was hoarse for another full day!!!

As the laws of nature would have it, all good things come to an end...or do they...?!
Upon exiting for about an hour after the concert, as we stood outside; Letlotlo, Vuyo and I and the girls we were with; to get fresh air before jumping into our spaceships and riding off into the magic gallexy...lo and behold...Thandiswa Mazwai walks past us.
She, however, was on the phone, and this was waaay before the twitter days where the only way to have confirmed our brief encounter, would be to stop her and ask for young 'hello' , a hug or an autograph.  ...but...being the gentleman that I am, I did not want to disturb her pleasant phone call...

This was undoubtfully one of the best nights in my life and I will say that Jamiroquai is a great band and I respect their talent and music.  The concert is safely tucked in a pictorial section in my memory archives and I will pigeonhole it as a scepter in my life's happiness!
