Afri-can

African

We have a variation of what black people should look like. We have Afrocentric black people. We have urban and sassy African people. What I'm saying is: embrace your beauty, with all the cracks that come along with it.

Be proud to be black. Do not try to be anything else... it would never work!

Melusi Masiza Ncongwane

Melusi

Melusi Masiza Ncongwane. With Xhosa origins from my Mother and Zulu roots from my Dad.

I watch myself grow and contain maturity that keeps me easily going through life. I don't sweat the little stuff... I deal with the real, so if it's artificial let it be!

But for now... let's keep it funky!

Chill

Growing up I realised that I made friends very easily. I enjoy new company, chatting to new people.

As I grow older, I realise that the important stuff is not always lurking around outside. I enjoy indoors chilling with a few good men/mates. I guess I'm learning more and more to draw into myself!

Wtf🤦🏾‍♂️

Okay, so it's Friday night and I'm doing the whole Tyler Perry sitting at the Tarven updating the quintesential blog. I'm drinking and swore I would never use the term #SBWL... the web has got me. But I prefer to use it as in the friendly: "SIPS BEER WITH LAUGHTER"... I feel Black-ish🙈

She's that rare thing!

In the frame: Melusi, Camera guy Thandiswa & Helen

Action location: Mbali Podcast with Helen at  Braamfontein's J&B Hive;)

When you wake up on a Sunday morning and you feel like listening to some jazz, the best album to feed your craving has to be Thandiswa Mazwai's BELEDE album.

Her voice coats the instruments like honey over a decadent treat. So at the J&B Hive she was talking all things #BongoMaffin, #Zabalaza and #Belede. I asked her a question about what she thinks about people that say she's not relevant anymore as she... and I quote these misinformed beings...: "doesn't make money anymore..."

So hold up, Thandiswa makes #BongoMaffin money internationally might I add, she makes #Zabalaza moola, she makes #Thandiswa money from solo acts all over the world with big name collaborations. She then turns you out and still makes #Belede money in and around Africa and overseas... that's a lot of zeros, Thandi!

When she answered the question she answered it with a humble "I'm not doing it for the fame"...
So if you ever doubted Thandiswa's skills, check your facts first!

We bow down to you King Tha🖤

Yeah, no... let's just chill

Art or crime?

We live in a country where graffiti is illegal.  As a person that was taught how to use a spray can and someone who completed a Dimensional Drawing course, I know the feeling of a completed piece... you feel like you've just put to light a new style.

They need to give us murals!

South Africa stand up!!

Hip hop, you're the love of my life!

Hip hop... you're the love of my life.

Although this may seem like just a statement, it's been coined as a dope saying in the hip hop community.

It may seem untrue, but hip hop IS the healer. There are so many leaders to obey that say this and that, but hip hop has remained the absolute truth amongst all the hype. Hip hop is the bomb because you have someone delivering you a clear message laced by some I'll beats that are current, I'll and well thought out. So I say it's the healer because it provides answers to questions that "the real people" have, and these are generally what people want to hear. It's dope to talk about the dope genre, al beit I dig doing this with people that are familiar with it. So next time you hear someone use the phrase: "hip hop you're the love of my life", they probably know refined hip hop!

September 2019 is shocking!

September 2019. You have been quite an eye opener. I have noticed how we "live" online and pretend that nothing is happening in our lives. The news have been appalling!

We're living in a country where we need to now pave the way for generations to come, with the way that our questionable society kills and loots while the government stands and looks... I mean what does it have to take to show that we need change and not to romanticize our problems.

Until then... "get up, stand up for your right" -Bob Marley

Africa stand up!

How did you sleep? Did you have a dream?

In Africa we have people that tell you about your dreams. Why is it that people haven't noticed how dope it is being African.

This is the origin of everything. African Americans, they come from here. The first skull of a black person was found in London... we're everywhere,  we're everything... embrace it!

Dedicated to Erykah Badu

Erykah's propelling album is arguably her Baduizm album, that spawned tracks such as On&On (which still has commercial success til today). She flipped the script on us with the video when we realise that she was just Cinderella and wanted to speak her truth on and on til the morning.

I love listening to Erykah. She can be politically charged as well as romantically influential without drowning you emotionally.

It's been years and I still bump to Love Of My Life featuring Common as though it was released yesterday... "you'll b boy, and I'll b girl". Erykah is that fresh artist that just gets better with time. She'll make you put your phone down with one verse!

Never surrender

Being alive means being aware of your surroundings.

I found joy through my travels, interactions and questioning. I wonder and ask you what you think, then you ask me to explain what makes me, me... I'd tell you that you know me, but I'd tell you that I'm defining the God in me. I'm mastering not having to listen to too many externals to find my own voice... that I sharpen like a crazy sword.

Who are they to ask who you are praying to?
Whether you pray to Allah or to Jesus Christ, it gives you an impression of who you are... it gives you clues from what they keep lying to you about... the Bible, the Koran... how can you call yourself whole without guidance?

So keep opinionated, but never surrender.

Amandla✊🏾

The good, the bad and the ugly

Lifestyle is like a good typography! If the typography is good, you are then drawn to what is being written.

Therefore, what I'm trynna say is s good lifestyle is type of 'bar's that you put for yourself. It's what you dig, what you want and what you achieve.

Maintain a good lifestyle and maintain a good life.

Keep on moving

You always say that there are certain things that you don't like.

What are you doing about it? If you feel that now you wanna drink Coke Zero because the original is a bit too strong for you, or you wanna start buying from a different supermarket: do it! We're not slaves of the consumption penitentiary where you'll be murdered if you change your brand...

Ironically; it's the same in life. Society is going in the same direction chasing the same thing... who's gonna kill you if you decide to do your own thing?

Swim upstream when everyone else is swimming downstream... upstream is where your ultimate home is, because even though it took you against the current, it made you stronger and got you to stand on your own.

Keep your head up and be auspicious in your livelihood.

Be.

Juicy

Messages are everywhere. On your mobile, on television; on billboards.  The only difference is when you can answer the question; can you tell the difference between a subliminal message from a deliberate one.

Did you know when watching a movie and you see a Coca-Cola automatically you become thirsty and want to drink one. Pure advertising. However, you have to be a master like Coca-Cola to speak to people on that level.

Coca-Cola anyone?

Celebrate!

The legend Bob Marley died on the 11th of May in 1981, he was my age then... 36 years old.

His music is something so real that you listen to it dimensionally: you listen to it with understanding and the craving to understand him (it) some more. When I listen to it, I don't think of oppression, I listen to the message. I celebrate that even after all these years we can still listen to Bob Marley like he recorded the songs yesterday.

Celebrate music, because "when the music hits you you will feel no pain".

Bob Marley lives through our love.

It's bigger than my nigga

It's bigger than my nigga
It's bigger than the government
It's bigger than religion -

Hip hop!

A lengthy story

Dreadlocks are amazing. Your hair wouldn't normally grow to the length that it grows to with dreadlocks. It's the equivalent of a beautiful wonder, even though we all know it has everything to do with growing cells.

I still dig the phenomenon though. It's I'll.

Wednesday, 10 July 2019

There are many ways of expressing yourself: you can get tattoos or grow your dreads.

You will express yourself by giving yourself an identity. Identity is important because it's what gives you a stand point!

Be yourself even though they say you don't fit in.

Raggae music, derived from Jamaica in terms of the style of music that it is. It is free, uncontained and experimental.

It has a great feeling when you listen to it live, it's almost spiritual.

Listen with your third eye!

One of my favorite hip hop films must be Brown Sugar.

"So... when'd you first fall in love with hip          hop?"

Hip hop has it's own soundtrack

Hip hop is how you read and write as well

Speak up...

Speak up or forever hold your piece

Don't leave that book!

Here's a conscious question:
What is the first thing that you do when you're born as a human being? You take your first awakening breath of life, correct... and you are naturally alive! Nice to meet you ____________________ [Insert name here]!

There are mandatory things in life that one never forgets; like breathing when you were first born. Reading and writing became the pleasant entities that I enjoyed taming, as I still do today.

When I read a book, the Author (depending on whether he is a short story or a long writer) always ends up opening parts of my imagination that I can see through words as opposed to motion. He forces you to think. It might challenge you, but that's when you unlock vivid manners of your brain and you train it to think in a certain way. I also just really enjoy a good story... it creates a whole new world. So next time your fingers embrace a page of incredible words that opens your mind, just remember that reading creates closure to questions you have and it creates certainty in your life and space. Enjoy your read.

Hi

I'm chilling at the beach watching the sun go down. It's tranquil, it's pure and it is inspiring.

People talking in languages that have no space for interruptions because it's true state of being what I would call not in anyone else's head. This is when I can relax and be in what I call my element. The distraction of visual electronics such as a television or a microwave are but a far mission for me. It's being friends with whom I call... me: did I just contradict myself?

I am loving the cool air that hits my nose as I feel each and every pore thanking my higher being for teaching me to be me.

What is free?

I was in college right...

Then suddenly I turn on Y-fm and I'm supposed to be in class. Then the DJ has an interview with Tumi from the Volume: I don't know why it's always so comfortable calling him that... cos he is...you know?!

He spoke about how dope it was to be part of a group and how to find self in the group. I then started listening to him religiously...

Guess what... I still do, and the thing about it, is that I have discovered that he speaks from the belly and not the creased mind that holds only folds of memories that people and bosses tell you you should. He speaks, he explains and most importantly... from what I've learnt from him, is to listen to your gut! Fuck what people say, fuck the media (if you will), fuck your religion if it doesn't serve you correctly and frighteningly tells you you will burn in hell for not "obeying". We have to find what we want and never search outside ourselves to find it...

Tumi liberated me!

Be real

Street art assumes running away from beauty.
Be real.

Spray it, don't say it! #tagit

I was taught the technique of tagging/spray painting.

The different type of paint will convey the type of art you will produce. Is your spray waterbased or is it the alternative?

Then finding a great canvas. This will allow you to go crazy with your design.

Then the final stage is to snap that ish up and send it to your Instagram!

Happy tagging!

The world is becoming smaller
When you go somewhere, the first thing you do is take the person's contact. You then have made your circle a but smaller ironically.

When you move around, you know people and those people know people. So at the end of the day... the world IS getting smaller

Street wear represents something

It's unique to every individual.

To me:
It's urban, it's fresh... it ticks the creative boxes of what you stand out as: an individual..:-)

America in trouble

Good morning

When you woke up this morning, did you pray? Did you read? Did you sign up for a new app?

Well, however you started your day, don't ask me what to tell to tell your government!
Sit behind the computer screen while funds and tax is being misused.

Remember when Trump said he just wants to be president to grow his business.  That's not politics, that's just business. How many employees does he have? They're in trouble!!They need to go through his intentions with a fine comb.

Singing out to go and control my life.

Best regards,
A citizen
