Lead...don't follow. Make a change.

Apartheid was obviously a hard time for South Africa. I was born in 1983, so that was obviously way before my time. Being the South African-proudly so- I keep up with our history and the changes in our country.

It was obviously a time of oppression and a lot of struggle. Our parents endured major suffering and a lot of hard lifestyles. Imagine trying to raise kids in a period where you were not allowed to be free and choose. Imagine living in a country where you were rightfully born but not allowed or not able to conduct a simple lifestyle like going to work and back without having cops bother you about that simple routine. The irony is that going to and from work was something that was necessary and needed to be done, but being so oppressed by the laws and the situations did not make this an easy task.

We have come a long way since then, and even though things have become much easier, it does not mean that things do not need to change or get even better. We are still faced with tough issues such as unemployment. A lot of the youth graduate and then sit looking for employment. They end up qualified but never able to find a job. The most recent issue that we are all familiar with is the #FeesMustFall that the Wits students were marching about. Gladly they succeeded and they made sure that their voices were heard and that they made a difference and knew what they are fighting for. A lot of brilliant students struggle due to poor backgrounds and this leads them to not further their dreams to the ultimate. It is not cool, it is not fair...it is unjust. Where is the justice in having a brilliant mind and not being able to use it and express it to the best of your ability?

The media depicts a lot of changes that the country goes through. We feed the media. We predict what the media will show us and portray. We need not forget that we are living in a global village where the whole world is watching us as well as interacts with us...therefore we need to ensure that like a school we pull together and work together to show that as a country, we are a positive human nation. Let's ensure that we live harmoniously and with the right attitude and intensions.  The president recently delivered a speech about crime and how to handle crime in our country. Let us not confuse taking a stand with being violent. Let's make things work for us.

I believe in building a better country for you...for me...for our children...our children's children...and definitely to say thank you to our parents for helping us to make a change to what the country has become and how it is progressing.

Let's make a change and never forget where we come from and where we are going.

I love this ad!

We are subjected to a lot to watch and what we see on television these days. However...this gives you the choice to say no to what you don't what to watch.

What content are you into? Rom Coms? Series? National Geographic?  There's a lot that exposes us to the world out there and what happens in and around the globe.

South Africa has a lot of talent that its exposing us to these days... I love watching Vuzu. It shows us that our youth has a lot that they can offer today and what we can do as a youth to ensure that we tell the government, the media and most importantly...each other as a youth to do.  We need to ensure that we show each other that we can actually produce a growing country and to ensure that we actually move forward from where we were a year and a couple of years back.

Progress comes slow and steadily.  Nothing worth while comes fast and actually lasts. Make sure that what you want to do is what you love and yes, make sure that you can make a success of it and most importantly, make sure that you can wake up each day with your head held high saying that you are proud of what you are doing.  Television is an important medium because it shows you visual and most importantly... it is a lot of work that a lot of people work hard to make perfect and to make sure that you as a viewers stays entertained.  A lot of people that studied and actually know how to make viewing television something that is responsible, important and relevant. So always be thankful that people that have studied media and know what they are talking about actually produce good shows and good productions.  Say thank you and open your mind...you just might learn something!

Janet Jackson

I've been a Janet Jackson fan since forever. She has tracks that just makes you smile. sing. dance and yo just right down feel damn good!

I've just bought the unbreakable cd... I've listened to literally two cuts on it and I'm already hooked. Her voice is still soft and sweet...sensual and right out sexy. She's got sex appeal like nobody else could. She speaks to the heart soul and mind. I love Janet because she is a trend setter...if you know what I mean...she does not follow trends and make music for the "masses" as opposed to making music because it's her art and her form. She knows how to put on a damn great show. I went to one of her shows when she was here in South Africa... and I don't remember screaming as loud as I did when she performed "I get lonely" and asked for one of the members in the crowd to come up on stage so she can seduce them and have her way with them. she normally does this at most of her concerts...and she ends up giving the guy a lap dance and ensuring that he gets his money's worth. God-damn-it... I wished I was that dude. He was truly and ultimately satisfied for the evening.  She even ends up giving the guy a kiss on the lips and making him her muse. He was happy... I was just screaming hoping and praying she might change her mind and ask jubilant me to come join her on stage give me "the night of my life".

She put on a show of a lifetime. She danced...she seduced...she please and she most definitely enticed. I don't know if you remember the song called "Throb". If you don't...download it or buy the cd...you'll thoroughly love it...if not get so high from it from pure pleasure and ecstasy.

Artists come and go... and I mean come and go.  But Janet has been around since the 80's and is still kickin ass til today. (After thought) Did you see her slay the 80's MTV awards...worth a google!  Janet has lasting power...she has depth...she has soul...she has a true artist needs to ensure that you don't "come and go".

The album "Unbreakable" seems to have really cool joints. I live the joint she did with JCole... pretty laid back and smooth as Ultra Mel. She make music that moves the soul.  If you're not a Janet fan now...start getting in touch and I promise you you won't regret the option. You'll be pleased... amazed...touched... oh you will be wowed.

Go out the and get yourself a Janet cd... you'll thank me later!

These are random pics of the net... we'll talk about Janet again soon.

There's smoke in the air!

I remember when I started smoking. I always thought that I would smoke without stop.  I smoked for pleasure and to look cool... I was a social smoker.

Through out the years, I went on to smoke more and more. I realized that smoking is something that people do to distress and also to pass time.  I gradually kept on smoking just to pass time as I was relaxing or even just at events and parties.  I started smoking Camel cigarettes and then later changed to Marlboro cigarettes.  As time went on, I ended up smoking Peter Stuyvesant and I actually haven't changed the brand in a long time.  Smoking has become something that I do on a regular and I've realized that I actually enjoy smoking as it is a great pass time.

I used to smoke Stuyvie Red but later changed to changed to Stuyvie Blue. I'm writing about my smoking habits because I just wanted to let you know that I have decreased my smoking habit and I am now smoking a lighter cigarette brand.

I suppose eventually I'll stop smoking all in all.

Just saying!

Friday

Hello dear friends

I am sitting at a place called Chisa Nyama in my hood in Zone 14.  It's a cool place that has a rather down to earth clientele.  There's not a lot of weirdness of bad behavior going on.

I love this place because it is chilled and has a great vibe.  The one thing that I always wonder is will the managers ever get to know how valuable the customers are.  Chilling at a place like this on a regular Friday makes you wonder if there are other things to do... maybe... maybe not...however, what the most boggling thing  about it is that if you as a "client" comes here, do you come here for the people or do you come here for the the good feeling.  The character of the place is very deep...did I just say that? (Check that).

South Africa has a lot of issues going on at the moment. I won't mention them...you should be watching the news... but finding a place like this means that there is a difference I how people think and want to change their lively hood. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you're looking for a good time. Come to Chisa Nyama!

Mom

There comes a time in a man's life when you have to decide what is most important to you.

I have come to realize that spending time with my mom makes me the happiest.  When I'm with my mom, I can talk to her about anything. I can talk to her about what I ate, what I want and my aspirations in life. I've come to realize that I appreciate her so much that I don't think I can do anything without consulting her or anything. We take trips with my mom. There are times when we just sit in silence and I realize that we don't need to say anything but just spend time together. I know that this post may seem a bit weird for a grown man like me to be posting, but there comes a time when you need to share how special it feels to love your mom and actually appreciate her.

She's intelligent, she's smart, she's beautiful and she knows how to love.  She taught me how to pray, she taught me how to love, she taught me how to cook and she taught me to be the man that I am today that knows God, that fears God and that knows how to be responsible and to always be who I am in a the greatest way possible.

My mom taught me respect and showing her respect first and foremost is something that brings pleasure in my life and I love being able to share life with her and being able to share the life that she gave me.  She is my friend, she is my inspiration, she is my rock and purely put...she's the good in me.

Gotta love mom!

Patience is a virtue

There's nothing more exciting than trying new things and trying to be good at it.  Some people are just good at being bad but, yo... that's their prerogative.

I'm trying to grow my hair. And not just to grow it, but to grow an afro. It's exciting to try and grow it, however it takes a long time to try and grow it.  This is the fun in the whole process.  It's fun trying to see how long it has grown each week, sometimes I even wonder how long it has grown each day.  The patience in trying to grow it makes one realize that trying to make something work is something that will take quite some time and will definitely make a person question a lot of things...such as, whether to continue doing or to just give it up.  Giving up is a hard thing to do, but the metaphor of the patience in growing the afro is something I like.

So let's hope in a couple of months time you'll see me rocking a great, kick ass afro.

He has a casual looking one...pretty cool

The one and only Prince

This is just too nice.

This one only looks cool. Rugged but cool!!

By your side (I'll never leave your side)

This is Sade's "By Your Side" video.  If you haven't seen the video or you feel like just getting a bit nostalgic, press play... you won't regret it.

I don't know if you understand the concept of the video. Sade is walking around in the romantic scenery with all her "normal lifestyle" around her and she interacts with the "lifestyle".  Very sweet, very pure and very touching.  She is later seen in the city streets holding out flowers in passing traffic as she offers these flowers to the passing traffic.

When we are in high school and growing up, we are always asked the question: "what do you want to be when you grow up?"  The answers are always very generic and expected. "I wanna be a doctor. I wanna be a police man. I wanna be a teacher..."  These are the professions that we all think are the most successful and the only profitable and sustainable professions.  If you are lucky enough to have a family that supports you and believes in you, you will broaden your perspective and your ambitions and seek to find what you love and what you have passion for and to do.  And let's face it, you have to love what you do...otherwise, why are you doing it...why stress your self and why even try to continue trying to convince yourself that you are working and chasing a dream?!  It's just a dead end...

This video really speaks to me, cos Sade walks around in the scenery of the place that she loves and holds dear to her heart and collects pieces of it and interacts with it and embraces it as she sings the lyrics: "If you think I'd leave your side, I wouldn't do that..."  The scenery is special as it is bare and is only surrounded with trees and bare land.  There is no buildings or a lot of movement, it is almost as though it is a place all on its own put aside in this whole wide world just for them.  It is beautiful in its natural state.  The lyrical content is deep and totally profound.  At one point she says: "If you want to cry, I am here to dry you eyes".  To me this line says that you might be strong and you might have everything together, but when it gets too much and you need a way to release the pain, I am always here for you.  She continues her journey in the video as she leaves all that she loves and has been interacting with and walks on an open road.  Up ahead in the distance you see buildings that she is approaching as she slowly makes her way away from her "home" to the "city".

This is the story for most of us.  We grow up in the hood and leave the hood to pursue our dreams and look for and search for "a better life" and to find success.  This does not mean that you abandon your life, your lifestyle, your home or even your loved ones and everything that you love.  It just means that you are taking what you love and what you know and are going to make it work in a place that will give you better opportunities and a chance to make a success of your life.  It just means that you are brave enough to leave your comfort zone in search of a "difference" to bring you closer to your dreams and your ambitions.  You leave home to go live in the city or just to work in the city, but in your heart of hearts you know where home is and will always be.  You go into the city from the hood to go sell your intelligence, to go sell your ideas and to go sell your opinion to a different environment from where you come from.  You take the teachings that you have been offered in school and have been raised with to go and change opinions and to make people look up and notice YOUR opinion and to let them know that there is a voice that is yearning to be heard.

The important this is to make sure that no matter what, you don't sell your soul to the concrete jungle.  To make sure that you do not get swallowed in the belly of the infamous beast that is the city...because it has a lot of temptations, a lot of paths that will and can lead you astray.  Know your self, know what you want and know what you will not succumb to, and you can always go back home with you head held up high and be proud to be making a difference in the world but still maintaining dignity and self-respect.  So that precious flower that Sade is offering in the city... don't forget to offer the flower knowing that you have a garden that you are growing at home so that you never have to suffer in the streets.

Keep your dreams alive.  Keep faithful.  Keep ambitious.  Rocksteady!
